Bihar Assembly Elections: EC reviews enforcement plans to ensure free and fair polls, to address media today (X/TIN)
Bihar Assembly Elections: As the Bihar Assembly elections is nearing, the Election Commission is actively conducting review meetings to discuss election strategies, to review enforcement plans and to ensure free and fair elections in Bihar. Notably, on Saturday, the election body held a meeting with political parties. Meanwhile, the election conducting authority will today also conduct important meetings in Patna with the enforcement agencies. After the meetings, the Election Commission will address the media on the status of election preparations.
Ahead of the date announcement, the Election Commission will review election preparations. Notably, the Election Commission's meeting will continue for the second day today in Bihar. During the meeting several important issues will be discussed. The Chief Electoral Officer Gyanesh Kumar is expected to conduct a review meeting with the enforcement agencies involved in the electoral process, as well as with the nodal officers of the Bihar Police and Central forces. In addition, meetings will also be held with the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, and other senior officials.
It is worthy to be mentioned that during the BJP Election Committee meeting, a discussion on the seats lost in 2020 and the remaining sitting seats is also expected. The performance of current MLAs and the names of potential candidates is also expected to be discussed during the meeting.
Notably, at 2 pm, the election conducting body will also address media to update the brief related to the important developments, such as summary of poll preparedness, feedback from political parties will be discussed, as well as strategies for the coming weeks.
9:30-11 am: A meeting with enforcement agencies.
11:30 am-12 pm: Review meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer, Bihar Police, and Central Force nodal officers.
12-1 pm: A meeting with the Chief Secretary, DGP, and other senior officials.
2 pm: Press briefing by the Chief Election Commissioner.
It is to be noted here that after the meeting on Saturday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal-United (JD-U) stated that it has asked the election conducting body to ensure that polls are conducting in just one phase similar to 2024 Maharashtra elections. Notably, the previous elections in Bihar were conducted in three phases.
